Sledging at some of the frozen Glaciers is also offered by locals. Skiing facilities are as such not effered in Pahalgam, and areas around it. There are some potential spots where basic skiing activities can be organized in future in the winter months, like the slopes of Aru or Baisaran, of even the ‘plateau’ in Pahalgam. In summers, sledging is popular in Chandanwari.
Every year training programmes are organised by Jammu and Kashmir tourism department in collaboration with Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports to promote skiing in pahalgam and to facilitate adventure enthusiasts. A newly constructed 230 meters Ski-Lift with carrying capacity of 420 people is amoung the infrastructure to boost snow skiing in pahalgam.
